Ingredients for the Pie Filling:
- 6 cups of thinly sliced, peeled apples (such as Granny Smith)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Ingredients for the Pie Crust:
- 2 pre-made pie crusts (or homemade if preferred)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, lemon juice, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
- Roll out one pie crust and place it into a 9-inch pie dish.
- Pour the apple filling into the pie crust.
- Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the apples. Trim any excess dough and crimp the edges to seal the pie.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush it over the top crust.
- Use a knife to create a few small slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
- Allow the pie to cool before serving. You can serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
