Ingredients:
- 3 large onions
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 baguette
- 2 cups grated Gruyère cheese
- 4 soup crocks or bowls
Instruction:
- Peel and slice 3 large onions. In a large pot, sauté the onions in butter over medium heat until caramelized.
- Pour in 4 cups of beef broth and bring to a simmer. Let it simmer for 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, slice the baguette into thick slices and toast them until golden brown.
- Once the soup is ready, ladle it into 4 soup crocks or bowls.
- Place a slice of toasted baguette on top of each serving of soup.
- Sprinkle ½ cup of grated Gruyère cheese over the bread in each crock or bowl.
- Preheat the broiler. Place the crocks or bowls on a baking sheet and broil until the cheese is melted and bubbly about 2-3 minutes.
- Carefully remove from the oven and serve hot. Enjoy your French onion soup!
