Ingredients:

  • 3 large onions
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 baguette
  • 2 cups grated Gruyère cheese
  • 4 soup crocks or bowls

Instruction:

  1. Peel and slice 3 large onions. In a large pot, sauté the onions in butter over medium heat until caramelized.
  2. Pour in 4 cups of beef broth and bring to a simmer. Let it simmer for 20 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, slice the baguette into thick slices and toast them until golden brown.
  4. Once the soup is ready, ladle it into 4 soup crocks or bowls.
  5. Place a slice of toasted baguette on top of each serving of soup.
  6. Sprinkle ½ cup of grated Gruyère cheese over the bread in each crock or bowl.
  7. Preheat the broiler. Place the crocks or bowls on a baking sheet and broil until the cheese is melted and bubbly about 2-3 minutes.
  8. Carefully remove from the oven and serve hot. Enjoy your French onion soup!
